This was his own little world, where he controlled all the variables. Here he had his abacus, his ledgers, his black-bound Book of Bad Debts, his files of correspondence, his copy of 'Coins of Chalakanesia', and all ten volumes of the third edition of 'Federal Tax' (an encyclopedic survey largely concerned with ways to avoid it).
