In a few days, the Year of the Elephant would be at an end, and the Year of the Pearl would commence, with the month of Zavrakeltic, the Month of All Births, bringing a collective communal birthday to all of Chalakanesia. Atlanta would be twenty-seven, an age by which - if the textbook theory of ethnologists is to be believed - most Chalakanesians have accepted their limitations.
